Welcome to Cranio Ribbons Ireland!

hERE ARE SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS!
Q.If I'm concerned about my childs head shape, who can I go to?
A. The main thing is to not be afraid to follow your instincts, as they say, mothers know best! If you feel like something really isn't right (Lumps, bumps, ridges etc) , make an appointment with your GP and ask to be referred to Dr.Murray at Temple Street :)
Q. What are the health implications caused by uncorrected craniosynostosis?
A. Craniosynostosis is a condition where the sutures of the skull fuse prematurely, therefore restricting brain growth, because of this, there are many health implications that can arise, such as sight, hearing, learning difficulties, headaches, broken sleep (due to intracranial pressure).

Q. What is the treatment for Craniosynostosis?
A. The main way Craniosynostosis to be corrected is by CVR ( Cranio Vault Surgery). The surgery is performed by Dr.Murray and his team in Temple Street Childrens Hospital in Dublin. Dr.Murray is the only cranio facial surgeon in Ireland. He does up to 2 surgeries a week.
Q. How long does the surgery take? and what can I expect post surgery?
A. The surgery can take up to 6 hours. Post surgery, your child will be brought back to the ward. For most cases, your child will spend maximun of 5 days in hospital. Over these 5 days, a lot of swelling is to be expected, and your child may look a bit different after his/her cranio is corrected, as the surgery changes the shape of the skull.
From my own experience, my son, who had surgery at 4y/o, was up laughing and playing with his older sisters on day 2 post surgery :)
Q. How can I acsess the private support group on Facebook?
A. Our private support group on Facebook is monitored by our Adminastrators, one being myself, and the other 3 are other cranio mothers. One of the rules of the private page is that you must have a diagnosis to join the page, this is because, we share our stories and pictures, and we don't want everyone and anyone to be able to see these. Here is a link to the private Facebook page (www.facebook.com/cranioribbonsirelandsupportgroup) . There are also links to our open Facebook and Twitter pages on our home page :)
